Foundation

I grew up in a small beach town in So. California called Corona del Mar. I have been cutting and styling since my earliest years! I adored cutting hair all through high school and then college at San Diego State and Oregon State. I always wanted to do hair professionally, but first worked to get my BS in Design and Merchandising and then an AA in Interior Design. Years later, I missed doing hair, so I went back to Cosmetology School.  I opened Studio K in Davis in 2008 and now Curly on Q, in 2018.  I guess I took the long way here but I have loved the winding path.

Curls Became my Passion

Cutting curls came to me organically. As a little girl, I used to watch my mom dry cut my Uncle's auburn Afro back in the 70's. I watched as she shaped and cut each curl;  it didn't occur to me that there was any other way!

Many years later, after going to Cosmetology School and working in the salon, I was taught to first straighten curly hair and then cut it dry.  To the horror of my new clients, they would get home and not have any idea how to create the same look.  It didn't make sense, so I started to educate myself about curly hair cutting.   In fact, I am always learning more and strive to keep current with classes.

Today

I love my salon life cutting all textures of curly, wavy and straight hair, as well as doing color. I'm inspired by nature and aim to do lived-in color so that it will last.  I only use very concentrated, water-based products of the highest quality at Curly on Q.  I work hard and enjoy my job very much.
